I See England, I See France

In a comparison of our time spent in London to our time spent in Paris, the latter wins for ground covered. I don't know if we would recommend anyone to travel to London right now since most of the city is in some state of renovation due to the upcoming Olympic Games. Many of the Tube lines were being worked on as were many of the major attractions of London.

Among other things, Paris was easy to navigate. The Metro made sense (although there were many unlabled exits and entrances from the street), and there were only a few places where contruction impeded our forward progress. Even our trepidations about language were unnecessary. The people we encountered, mostly restaurant owners and staff, were very friendly and were patient with the little French we knew.

The highlights from London and Paris:

Jeremy:
London - We went up to Greenwich and I straddled the Prime Meridian. It was something special.

Paris - First response: the food, but we also visited an amazing puzzle store, where the puzzle maker cut the wooden puzzles in the store.

Sarah:
London - The London Mennonite Centre was wonderful. We didn't spend too much time there but the Jantz's (our hosts) were very sweet and the house was so old and lovely.

Paris - The D'Orsay Museum, without a doubt, although I couldn't find my favourite Degas statue. Being able to see the Impressionist works in person was really special to me. Also, just being able to recognize some of the famous places from French history was neat.

That is enough for today, but we are now in Friedrichshafen, on Lake Konstanz. Tomorrow we may go to Switzerland!
