Three Places in One Blog (or Three Long Bus Rides)

Finally a hostel with a working computer, although this one costs $0.60 for an hour. Not that that is really chore to pay. So onto the events of the week!

We spent two nights in Galway, the first of which was very difficult. One of our fellow roommates had a constant snore which began the instant his head hit the pillow. This after they had come in late and turned on the main light in our room effectively waking me up. But such is the nature of communal living. Jeremy beared the worst of it, but had a 2.5 hour catch up nap between 6 and 9. The second night was amazing, although the junior high French students were a bit rumbunctious in the morning.

Our full day in Galway was mostly spent on a bus. We took an extensive bus tour through the countryside of County Claire to the Cliffs of Moher. This was faciliated by an older gentleman who narrated the stories of the area with perfect ease as he navigated the narrow country roads in the large tour bus. "Are you praying yet?" was his common question. This excersion also took us to many places including an old tower house (which we would call a castle but really it's much smaller), a 3000 year old ring-fort, a 5,600 year old burial site, the incredible Burren (an area of more limestone than anyone can imagine) and many beautiful landscapes in between. We made it home in time to have dinner and a pint. We did have an interesting encounter with a zombie uprising during an outdoor performance but I do believe the hosting radio station had planned on this.

The next day we prepared to leave Galway and make our way to Dingle. This was the longest bus ride between our destinations. About 6 hours in total not including the time spent in Limerick, where we stopped for a 2 hour lunch. Dingle is a beautiful place. All the buildings are different colours and although they have many tourist geared shops (cheesy Fungi the Dolphin paraphenilia) there were many local artisans selling their goods as well. Jeremy and I attempted to cycle to Slea Head, the westernmost point of Europe, but the wind was really strong and I was no match for the slopes so we bailed. It had also began to rain, so even with raincoats we were pretty much soaked.

Today we took the bus from Dingle to Cork and since we've only been here for 4 hours there isn't much to tell yet. Our hostel is at the top of a hill but not very far from the city centre. Tomorrow we might watch some dog races among other things. We'll see.

Cheers!
