We made it

Well, our first day of travel took an unfortunate turn. Having spent a good 12 hours at the airport already, we were looking forward to boarding our plane and taking a relaxing over night flight. Our plane arrived at the gate and we were waiting for the boarding calls to begin when an attendant brought an very large group to our departure area. Turns out they were travellers to Athens and the had changed gates. We were a bit confused but assumed all was well. After much confusion and many attempts at finding out what was going on, Sarah came back from the washroom and looked at the departure board to find that flight894 to Dublin had been cancelled. More questions, insufficiently answered, followed. All we were told was there had been some mechanical errors. (What we have surmised from tidbits of info is that the Athens flight that was full had the mechanical problems so they ousted us from our not full Dublin flight to accomdate them.)

What followed was a three hour nightmare of waiting for answers, then our baggage, then our hotel vouchers, then the rather slow hotel coach, then our late dinner at the hotel. It was rough plus we had to be up very early for checkng into the flght which ended up leaving shout later than scheduled. Such was our international travel experience.

But we were stranded with many others who were quite lovely. Many of them were Irish trying to get home. We spent most of the night with one particlar couple from Belfast who were loads of fun. We did make it to Ireland, finally. Our plane touched down in Dublin at 8:20 pm local time which means we lost a day in Ireland but our jetlag won't be so bad. We are here now and with a $75 each consolation voucher from Air Canada. It's not much considering the run around they gave us but what can you do. All's well that ends well I guess.

Signing off to sleep. Cheers!
